As the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has rapidly spread across the globe, we are committed to the safety and well-being of all students, on and off campus. We will continue to advocate in the best interest of our student in this challenging moments. We are taking proactive and stringent measures to ensure the health and safety of our student community in accordance to guidelines stipulated by WHO and The CDC.
School Operations Update
Dear Students of the All Saints University School of Medicine, Dominica,
Just like you, we have been keenly following reports of COVID-19 and considering taking critical, informed actions that will limit the spread of this disease while ensuring the continuity of our teaching and research mission. The University remains operational with appropriate measures to protect the health of the community. In response to the situation at hand, we are accelerating our transition into more flexible and remote teaching and learning environment. We write to update you on major changes that will curb the spread of COVID-19 among members of our community:
Academic
- We will be transitioning to distant learning. Please note that the transition to distant learning is TEMPORARY.
- Classes will hold live and online via specified platforms.
- Students are advised not to return to campus after Spring break and to meet academic requirements remotely until further notice.
The resolution to move to virtual instruction was not made lightly. The objective of these changes is to lessen the need to gather in large numbers and spend prolonged time in close proximity to each other in spaces such as classrooms, residential buildings and dining halls.
Being a medical school, we aim to be at the forefront of modelling actions that will promote the greater good during the COVID19 crisis. Our actions conform to instructions of leading health officials on how to limit the spread of COVID-19. We cannot eliminate all risks, of course, but we believe at this time these steps will help mitigate the risks we face.
Travel Guidance
Travel can increase the risks of contracting COVID-19. Government travel restrictions and public health measures are changing daily. Those changes may make it difficult for you to return to your homes or to campus to resume academic activities. Learn more about the travel guidance as stipulated by the CDC.
- Foreign students who want to travel back home can do so if they wish. However we will continue to provide housing for students living on grounds who genuinely cannot return home, and we will continue to provide dining services, though they will be modified.
- Travel to Italy, Iran, South Korea and China is highly restricted until further notice. On February 28, the CDC raised its coronavirus (COVID-19) travel warning for Italy and Iran to Level 3 – “Avoid Nonessential Travel.” As of March 21, Brazil, Israel, Canada, Japan and Australia have been issued ” Level 3 Travel Warning”.
- We strongly encourage that you forfeit all plans of personal travel to jurisdictions with a Level 3 Travel Warning. If you must travel, please take all possible precautions before traveling, including staying up to date on the latest spread of the virus and considering difficulties you may encounter in returning home, especially when traveling internationally.
Effect on Academic Calendar
All Saints University School of Medicine, Dominica is extending remote instruction for the remainder of the semester. We feel this is the right decision required to safeguard the health and safety of our community. Your faculty will be in contact with you soon about completing the semester remotely. The calendar will remain the same but is subject to change depending on the turn of events. Your continued success is our priority, so please be sure to reach out to your faculty and our student support offices if you need assistance.
